About the Author
Joseph D. McNamara , retired police chief of San Jose, Calif., started his career as a beat cop in Harlem, New York City. He was the only police chief in the United States to hold a Ph.D. from Harvard University. McNamara has been profiled in Time, Newsweek, and The New York Times and Los Angeles Times. He is the author of five other novels, The First Directive, Fatal Command, The Blue Mirage, Code 211 Blue, and Love and Death in Silicon Valley.
